Larry Yap
War Gods (Veterans)
"War never changes, only warriors do."
The pain in the chests, the plates at their breasts,
red flows, and bodies toll the bell of lost souls.
Only those who remember the dreams of better days,
will pass peacefully as they fall like clays.
Bodies dashed to pieces, to grief and vengeance,
graves honoured by vows of brothers.
"To arms! To glory!" To fallen heroes without faces,
to names that once kept our paces.
we once fought for families back home,
but now we fight for those we call our own.
Our dead walks with us, they sing to our chorus,
they set ablaze like forest fires,
by the sparks of our armaments.
Tis a path that leads to death,
that the dead will live on to remember
the deeds we do as defenders.
Take heed, mortal souls!
For death and dignity awaits,
live through, stand with us,
and earn your rightful place.
"Veterans of the long war."
Lies And A Sincere Heart
Trust is measured by the lies you told,
The masks you wear and the little loopholes,
Shortcuts you took and debts you owe,
And mistakes you claim that are not your own.
It is measured by a sincere heart,
Your words and actions, too, play a part,
Lament no pains of righteous paths,
The same measure of trust is yours to grasp.
Highs And Lows
Highs and lows,
comes and goes.
on strings of fate,
with a strange light it glows.
Highs and lows,
ebbs and flows,
in tides of seas,
with a rhythm unknown.
Highs and lows,
sings and shows,
a song of whispers,
and of words and woes.

In the poet's words with regards to 'War Gods (Veterans)', 'Lies And Sincere Heart', 'Highs And Lows': (1) This is written as a dedication of remembrance to war veterans that fought in wars that preserved the peace we have today. The term "War God", in this case, refers to veterans who have survived the long wars that gave us peace today, who goes on to become inspirations to a new generation of soldiers. (2) Written as a reminder of the importance of honesty, sincerity and the measure of trust. Both stanzas are written in a "ying-yang" fashion where one talks of negative elements and the other of positive elements with regards to how trust is formed. (3) A more mysterious take on how life is perceived, each stanza shows a very different way to define the ups and downs of life. A string of strange light (a fascination); a random tide (unpredictable); and a song (emotional).
