The Essence of Passion
Passion is a fiery glow
Feelingly it flows
From the source of your soul
Engulfing your whole being
Takes you a-whirring on its wings
Empowers you with the ability
To explore and expand your faculties
Look not far out, but within your inner essence probe
For that which stirs and inspires you
Motivates you and fuels you forward…
Passion is its name – that which gears and readies you for the game
Passion…
Feeds my motivation
Drives my intention
Makes things happen
With a spirited devotion
I revel in its energetic seduction
The power and embrace of its very essence.
Ziggety Zag – snatch bag theft
Completely oblivious was I
to the smooth swift approach
of his motorbike
when upon my privacy he encroached
with the quiet and clever stealth of a cat
in broad daylight grabbed my bag
and with calculated recklessness
rode off into the thick of traffic, ziggety zag!
I stood befuddled, bereft, and forlorn…
Was my handbag really gone?
Paralyzed and dumb
rooted to the spot I stood
my inner being all numb
oh the trauma!
this was real life drama
a brush with the hitherto unknown…
then stark reality slowly on me dawns
leaving me in utter distraught
I have been reduced to a mere pawn
in this zigzag path that life for us has drawn.
A Sense of ‘More-ness’
There is more to life
Than the stuff of the blinkered eye
Have you ever felt
A sense of more-ness
Engulf and shrink
Your corporeal being into smallness, a nothingness
Your spirit set free
Your soul filled with glee?
Have you ever felt
That fleeting moment of grace
A kinship with more-ness creates
As you ponder the enormity
The acts of creativity
The more-ness of the Almighty
Of the universe and beyond?
Or, sometimes on an evening walk
When upon a hill you gaze
Enamoured of its grandeur
To nature’s mecca
Your spirit yield in self-surrender
Then a new awareness in you awakes
Your sense of being a connection makes
With a sense of more-ness that lies
Beyond this universe …
There’s more to life
Than sensed by the blinkered eye.
Lucille Dass is a former lecturer with some published poems. She dabbles in poetry when mood, muse, or madness prompts (“O! that way madness lies” – Shakespeare). The resulting effort may yield any of these types: the vaguely vacuous verse, the purely puerile, the occasionally contemplative and just simply FUN!
